What is measured

  • Impressions, the video card was seen
  • Plays, the video started playing
  • Completed, the viewer watched to the end
  • Button clicks, the buy control was pressed
  • Add to cart and Buy now, split by which action was taken
  • Purchases, orders traced back to a video
  • Click rate, button clicks as a share of impressions
  • Conversion rate, purchases as a share of impressions
  • Attributed revenue, the value of those orders

How revenue is attributed

When a shopper interacts with a video, the session is stamped. When an order is placed, each item in that order is checked against the session, and the order value is credited to the video that drove it. Attribution happens at the point the WooCommerce order is created, so it reflects real orders, not clicks.

This means the revenue figure answers the question that matters: did the video actually sell anything, or did it only get watched.

Reading the numbers

  • Plays far below impressions, the poster frame is not pulling anyone in. Try a stronger opening frame
  • Good plays, few completions, the video is too long or takes too long to reach the point
  • Good completions, few clicks, the video entertains but does not sell. Show the product in use rather than only showing the product
  • Good clicks, few purchases, the drop off is after the video. Look at your cart and checkout rather than at the video
