Push notifications reach visitors on their phone or computer even when your site is closed. EternalPWA sends them from your own server through the browsers' push services, so there is no monthly fee. This is a Pro feature.
How visitors subscribe
Browsers block sites that ask for permission as a page loads, so EternalPWA never does. A small card asks instead:
- from the second page a visitor opens, or after 20 seconds on the first,
- straight away on the WooCommerce order received page, where order updates are most wanted,
- not again for 30 days after the visitor presses Not now.
The browser's own permission dialog opens only when the visitor presses Allow notifications. You can change the card text or switch the card off under EternalPWA, Push notifications.
Send a notification
- Open EternalPWA, Push notifications.
- Write a title and a message, and choose the page that opens when the notification is tapped.
- Press Send. The result shows how many were sent, how many failed and how many expired subscriptions were removed.
New blog posts can notify subscribers on their own: switch on Notify subscribers about new posts.
iPhone
On iPhone and iPad, notifications work for visitors who have added your site to their home screen, on iOS 16.4 or later.
Privacy and safety
- Subscriptions are kept in your own database.
- Only the real browser push services (Google, Mozilla, Microsoft, Apple) are accepted as subscription addresses, and each visitor address is rate limited.
