The advance is worked out on the server from the order itself: products, shipping and discounts included. Nothing the browser sends can change it.
Default advance
Used whenever no rule matches. Choose one type:
| Type | Fields | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Fixed amount | Amount in rupees | ₹500 on every COD order |
| Percentage of order total | Percent, minimum, maximum (0 means no maximum) | 10%, at least ₹300, at most ₹2,000 |
Percentages are rounded up to the next whole rupee, so a buyer pays ₹250 rather than ₹249.37.
Worked examples for 10%, minimum ₹300, maximum ₹2,000
| Order total | 10% | Advance charged | Collected on delivery |
|---|---|---|---|
| ₹1,500 | ₹150 | ₹300 (minimum) | ₹1,200 |
| ₹12,000 | ₹1,200 | ₹1,200 | ₹10,800 |
| ₹25,000 | ₹2,500 | ₹2,000 (maximum) | ₹23,000 |
If the advance would cover the whole order (for example a ₹300 minimum on a ₹250 order), cash on delivery is hidden for that order and the buyer pays online, because there would be nothing left for the courier to collect.
Rules
Rules let you ask for a different advance where returns actually come from. Each rule has conditions and its own advance. Rules are checked from top to bottom and the first rule whose conditions all match wins. Empty conditions are ignored.
| Condition | How to fill it |
|---|---|
| Pincodes | Exact six digit codes, or a prefix ending in *. Separate with commas: 302001, 110* |
| Cart from and up to | Order total range in rupees. 0 in "up to" means any amount. |
| Product IDs | Product or variation IDs, comma separated |
| Category IDs | Product category IDs, comma separated |
The shipping pincode is used when present, otherwise the billing pincode. A pincode rule does not match until the buyer has entered a pincode; the checkout line updates as soon as they do.
Rules that work well
- High return pincodes: list the prefixes where most parcels come back and ask for 50%.
- Big carts: cart from ₹50,000, 15% with a maximum of ₹5,000.
- Fragile or custom products: their category IDs with a fixed ₹1,000.
Use Move up to change the order and switch a rule off to pause it without deleting it.
Line names
Line name before payment and after payment are the names of the advance line on the order, the invoice and the packing slip. Defaults: "Advance payable online" and "Advance paid online".
