Take a small advance online on cash on delivery orders, and send your courier the correct balance to collect. Serious buyers pay it without thinking twice; the orders that would have been refused at the door never ship.
A cash on delivery order that is refused at the door costs you shipping twice and packaging once. Most advance payment plugins stop at taking the money, and the courier still asks for the full amount. COD Protection records the advance on the order itself, so your courier sees cash on delivery for the balance only.
